A new world. Plunged into a coma for 11 months after a serious car accident, a 19-year-old Briton discovered the pandemic when he woke up.
Joseph Flavill was hospitalized urgently on1 March after being severely hit by a vehicle. Suffering from a serious brain injury, he had slipped into a coma.
At the time, if the coronavirus was already present, life in the United Kingdom had not yet changed. It was not until March 23, three weeks after the accident of Joseph Flavill, that the first confinement came into force in the country.
When he came out of the coma very recently, the young man had no idea of the pandemic at the time. “We don’t know how much he understands. It’s as if he had slept throughout the pandemic, ”said his aunt, quoted by the Sun. And to testify to their difficulties: “how to explain the pandemic to someone who has been in a coma?”.
Joseph Flavill was nevertheless confronted with Covid-19, catching it twice in hospital, the first time when he was in a coma and a second time since he woke up. He also suffered the consequences of the restriction measures since only his mother was allowed to visit him, while keeping his distance.
The student, whose life has been put on hold for 11 months, is currently continuing his rehabilitation.
